Tonna 2014

OR

Noah - Master of the Wet stuff

The Sequel

When Tonna is dry – it’s a desert. When Tonna is wet - a marshy bog is a good description.  The weather forecast said rain and more rain, and there was a possibility of even more rain – but the weather forecast has been known to be wrong. So with fortitude and good heart we made our way to the Land of the Red Dragon. It rained on the way there – but it could not last, could it?

What rain? The weather was obviously perfect. Tents up in the dry, everyone happy.

There was a slight issue though. No one could decide where to put Neil’s tent.  It's normally The Twins tent but Becks could not make it until Friday night. It had to be a good 20 mins before they finally decided where this tent had to go. At last James said “let's put it with the door to magnetic north”. This seemed a good compromise and the iPhones' came out to use the built in compass.

There is a rule that no bikes in tents, but there is no rule about cars. It was felt that Neil could use it as a bespoke heating system –if he survived the carbon monoxide. Don’t you think it’s great though that you can get you car colour coordinated with your tent? How civilisation has advanced! The evening continued it true Scrumpies fashion –good food, good drink, good company –and talking about bowel habits (why are some people so interested in what comes out of them?!?)

Friday morning

Things changed overnight. Bandit, it would seem, had a fight with his tent the Thursday night before he went to bed. He said it was not the alcohol but a faulty zip. Either way he had a swimming pool in his tent that needed mopping up. Off to Morrison’s for breakfast and B&Q for a sponge

You can do it if you B&Q it!!

On the Friday night we had the full complement of the VSOC – Venerable Society of Carters.

Scrumpies were full on dancing the night away in the venue hoping that the furniture was strong enough to take on the winter weight.

Saturday

We knew that Maria from the Yorkies was getting old this year so some of us got together to get her a  prezzy. Knowing her advancing years we did not want to scare her with bright coloured paper and magical sticky tape. We stuck to what she was used to in the 1800’s and wrapped the parcel with brown paper and string – with a wax seal.

In the continuing theme of help the aged we went off to a 1940’s museum – it made The Twins pine for the good old days. While we were there we picked something up for Blacky. His Virago engine seems to be having issues.

So we picked him a Merlin Engine which seemed in better condition,

After the flood Bandit found himself a new tent, and got some practice in – he will need it for the future.

There were a large number of interactive exhibits that had to be played with – and fiddled with (Bandit)

The Scrumpies Space Program is going strong

In the evening we ended up in the club house in the small bar where good food, good drink, good company –and talking about bowel habits continued. We also had a game of pool or two but Joan was stuck in the 1940’s museum and called it ‘billiards’ all night.

You have to keep an eye on Steve Rhodes though, he seemed to have a spare ball up his sleeve – does he play cards like this? You have to ask! Mind you he managed to miss every single ball on the table with his shot.

Bandit was not happy with his game so picked up a new pool cue.

Although the rally went on until Monday some of us had commitments on the Sunday so we packed up Sunday morning for the journey home.

Even with the waterlogged site we always seem to have a good time at Tonna. I mean, where else can you have a poo in B&Q, find a new engine for a trike, and use a short Welsh woman as a pool cue? I ask you, where else? Nowhere.

The Welsh were as welcoming as ever and the laugh’s flowed as usual.

See you at the next rally.

Take care
