Scrumpies party 2013

As the t shirt says:

Last year was the Scrumpies Rally so no party but in 2013 the party was back.

As usual Bandit arrived Thursday to put up the marquees, bar etc – except he didn’t.

He and Mike arrived at 10pm on the Wednesday and had set up most of the kit, by torchlight and a plugged in florescent tube, by 2:15 am Thursday morning.

They got to bed at about 3am.

We thank Mike for helping but again you have to give it to Bandit and his 100% dedication year, after year, after year.

Friday Afternoon

People were arriving, tests were going up, and obviously health and safety was an issue. We had to have a fire marshal. Since Becks is used to avoiding fires due to his occupation and knew how to put them out, he was made fire marshal and was given the appropriate head wear. Obviously there is a slight problem – where there is a fire there is water.

And where there is water – people get wet. Becks said that at least his hair was dry.

The Friday night

Old friendships renewed and new relationships made

As usual where the Scrumpies go first others follow with the Scrumpets first on the dance floor

The Yorkies would have followed but one of them dropped 1p and you know what they are like from t’north.

They even go for a dance with their drinks in case someone takes it.

Mind you the demon drink can affect some people in the wrong way! Enough said.

The Saturday

On the Saturday morning the usual visit to the Scrumpies Memorial Sight. For those who do not know - TC cemented in some benches, with foundations a tsunami will never be able to shift, and brass plaques are screwed on giving members details as a remembrance after they have died. It is open to all the VSOC if they choose to do so. We had, as usual, 2 minutes of silence and the Nelson Oak we planted gets its annual can of Scrumpy Cider.

The majority of those that attended wore their Scrumpies Party Advert T Shirts.

On display were the Keep Calm shirts as well as the ‘I have survived’ t shirts.

The ride out was to the beach at Weston for the usual Scrumpies Party Sand Castle Competition . The team of Scrumpies under guidance and control (who am I kidding) of Master Mason Kev got to work on a mighty and ambitious project.

Archie realised that he had a problem with his crenulations (which can be painful) and ended up having to turn his wall around. Not only had we a building site we had a quarry as well

After a hour and a half the building had been finished.

The Scrumpies had built a mighty monument to British engineering. The Yorkies had build a big boob with some ridged skin deformity (they called it a bee hive castle – I ask you, really!!). We had a cat and an owl in a pea green boat and a very well executed castle on a medieval mound.

The independent judge had made her decision but no one would know who won until that evening.

The Saturday evening

The Scrumpy of the year gave out the long membership patches

Bob from the Yorkies very kindly presented the Scrumpies with the award for the Best Sand Castle.

Then we had the raffle and the only prize that is given out is the booby prize which you can see found great favour and was used immediately.

Other prizes were then claimed while the band was playing. An incident had happened within the previous couple of weeks in South Yorkshire where a little 3 year old girl had been knocked down by some off-road bikers who had not stopped. The girl was badly hurt and may not regain her sight. As you can imagine the biking community as a whole in the UK is not happy with the callous nature of these individuals and a collection was arranged. The Yorkies asked if a bucket could go round to add to the national collection for this little girl – no problem.

There was a helmet in the raffle that the winner decided they did not want. We can auction it off if we want for the little girl – OK.

Once it reached £100 VSOC members donated one raffle prize after another onto the pile – it did not stop at £100. Once the bucket had been emptied, once the auction was over, once the money dropped into the helmet had been counted, once the helmet had been resold again for charity – the amount of money that Maria from the Yorkies was asked to pass on was in excess of £650.

After that the music played, the cider flowed, and silliness was the order of the day.

Another great Scrumpies Party over again – but don’t panic, Keep Calm, and let’s see if you can Survive the Scrumpies Party 2014.

Take care

AJ
