'Somerset mystery ride 2012'

(Sorry no pics, nobody brought a camera)

Last Saturday, Dave took a call from Tonker, asking if he fancied a ride out on Sunday.

Dave jumped at the chance as he hadn't been out on his new Virago yet.

As we weren't meeting at Shipham till 11.00am I tagged along. We were also joined by Steve Field and Steve 'Elvis' Taylor.

On arrival we asked Tonker 'What's the plan?' He said there wasn't really a plan, but he'd had an idea!

'We can all take a turn to lead for 15 to 20 minutes. going where ever you like.

I immediately said that I have a terrible sense of direction, and goodness knows where we would end up!

He replied 'it didn't matter as that was all part of the fun,' so with that in mind we set off.

Tonker took the first 20 minutes (we reckon it was about 35,) he took us up to the Mendips and towards Cheddar and Wells.

Dave's turn came and we were off across the Somerset levels, on roads not quite as good as Tonker's. Glastonbury Tor seemed to be on all sides of us as we wound our way through country lanes.

So when I got my turn, we didn't go on any A roads, it was more often than not small country roads , sometimes with grassy bits down the middle.

I thoroughly enjoyed my turn without the pressure of needing to know where we were.

Both Steve's took there turns taking us through Priddy and Wells, (that's the only places I recognised)

We finished up over 2 hours later at Rocky Mountain Garden centre (Masbury Woolworths) near Shepton Mallet, for tea and cake.

The sun shone as we sat with our apple cake and reflected on the amount of roads we had never been on before, And we had only travelled about 50 miles.

What a fantastic day!
