Dunster Rideout

Sunday 20th April 2014

It all started with the monthly meeting at Banwell. At the end of the meeting Beano asked who was up for a rideout and a few hands went up despite the weather forecast not looking brilliant! Annette doubled up with Tonker and I was left all alone! Ok, so his is bigger than mine!

So off the six of us went down the A38 to pick up the M5 southbound. Off at North Petherton and via the back roads and Wiveliscombe where the rain started! A quick wee wee stop and a suitable hedge found. Tough crew The Scrumpies! On to Bampton where Kev and Linda decided to call it a day as he had a long ride home.

Ever persistent, Beano continued over Exmoor and Winsford to Dunster. We found a car park after going up and down the High Street a couple of times and made our way to a little café where we imbibed in badly needed food, a warm up as well as a dry out.

Some chose the pastries or cakes whilst Tonker and I went for the baked potatoes with a superb filling. Poor Annette got tied to the chair by her one piece wet suit and we all laughed aloud as she tried to get up!

Having warmed up and dried out a bit we headed to the bikes and fuelled up at Williton where Annette saw the light and came back with me. All of a sudden the mirror on Kate’s bike came loose so a quick stop to tighten it up and Annette took Tonkers trousers off! It was so funny as they struggled and they both fell over!

We came back the quick way via Bridgwater and the M5 northbound.

We peeled off at Weston and left Beano, Kate and Tonker to continue back to Clevedon. A warm bath was needed and the bike stayed dirty until another day. Despite the rain, a great day out and one worth repeating to revisit Exmoor and see the views on a clear day. A total of some 120 miles mainly in the wet! Tough lot The Scrumpies!
