Classic Motorcycle Show
Friday arrived and the initial start point was to meet Ivor, our Somerset rep, at his house nice and early to get over to Shepton Mallet and take his bike over to set up the stand. Once over there we were met by Kev and Linda who had the coffee and kettle all ready to go! Steve and Geoff arrived shortly after, must have been the sound of the kettle boiling! We unpacked the kit and erected the stand very quickly and positioned the bikes according to age, Kev first with his 920 in original condition followed by Ivor and his similar 920 that he had rebuilt. Then came Steve with his blue 1100. Two of three were non starters but who was to know! Mark came over later in the day and placed his very tidy 1100 on the stand as well. All sorted and very quickly done!
Saturday came and Ivor met Dave with his 1100 and trailered it across to complete the stand with just five of the ten bikes expected. It was a busy day and it looked likely we had about five new members.
Sunday started off very cold with some slushy rain coming down as we went over the tops and the show was a bit slow to start. Visitors included Blacky, Archie and Sue, Maz and Spatch, Mark Lewis, Hoppy. Jimmy and Karen arrived as well and she looked rather comical trying on some new trousers over the ones she was already wearing! Becks was also on hand to assist. Claire was also seen and should be more active now she has moved closer to Bristol.
The show got a bit busier around midday. As the afternoon pressed on bargains were offered by various stall owners as they did not want to take their goods back home! The one next to us was offering half price on the indicated tags for clothing and boots. So in future if you want a bargain, come to the show late on the last day.
It is worth a mention of the trailer Steve used to transport his bike over. It is totally collapsible and came out of the boot of his car! Firstly the cross beam came out which accepted the front and rear parts of the ramp. Then the wheels slid in to the cross beam. Then the front ball hitch and hinge went on and the front wheel chock pegged in to place. This allowed the trailer to drop at the rear and the bike just went up the ramp and clipped in to place in the chock device. The weight of the bike tilted the whole thing horizontal and finally the lights and number place pegged in to place. Absolutely brilliant idea and design!
Overall we believe we got some eight or nine new members but not all in our patch as some potentials had come up from Devon despite the cold and windy weather. Many thanks to all those who assisted and hopefully all who attended have been mentioned. A good weekend with many cups of coffee consumed.
