Lynmouth Rideout

June 2010

What a day, you just know from the start that it is not all going to go to plan!

Meet at Archie's to leave for quarter to nine I said, ok! they all said, so what happens. To start with Tonker has an early night, then gets up late to make up for it, now remember because Archie is not driving yet Tonker is taking him on the back. I get to Archie's at 8.30 am, no Tonker! On top of that Sue thought we said 9-15 to leave, and Mary has forgotten her shorts. An exchange of clothes (Sue & Mary) and Tonker arrives in record time from Kingston, and now were off.

Churchill stop for fuel, this is where big Mark decides to have a puncture! One can of tyre weld and 50p for some air and were off again, getting to Banwell at 10am

Remember its stands up 10-30am sharp! We leave at 11am. (Forgot we were back on Clive time) so with Clive leading, at last were on our way. As 22 bikes with 33 people were going on the ride, third man drop is the order of the day. Somerset, as they do were out in force, but for the first time for a very long time, there were members from all 5 counties, Somerset, Bristol, Gloucester Wiltshire and Dorset, what a turn out. This is what being in the club is all about for me.

First set lights Sue marks, great! but we all stop thinking she has broken down !!! its been a long winter. After this first and only mistake, we have a great ride to our first stop at Williton for toilet/fag/bum rest, its all going to plan now.

We are on our way again, over the top of Exmoor, we stop to take in the breathtaking views, you really have to see it!

OK time to leave--- some of us pull out, but because of the roads out here you can never see the whole pack, the next thing we know is Tonker flying past ( he's the back marker so obviously there is a problem) a quick chat with Clive sees us, going on to Lynmouth and Tonker flying back up the road. On arriving in Lynmouth we find out about the problem, guess what? big Mark has puncture number 2, this time its game over, so while Mark and his daughter wait for recovery from the AA, Those that stayed back with Mark made their way down to Lynmouth.

All together again, a stroll around the town and a sit down by the harbour, food and drink consumed, alls right with the world. What a lovely place!

Bugger we need fuel! Tesco is 23 miles away and they shut at 4pm!! Time we were off then. What a route, all along the coast with clear views right over to Wales, and some really big drops only feet away. The experience of Porlock hill made this a great way back! We got to Tesco just before they close. With goodbyes said we leave taking the A39 all the way to Bridgewater and the M5  where we split up to take our own routes home.

With 3 potential full and 1 associate member out with us this was a great rideout.

They were not the easiest of roads to ride, but to be honest the riding today was brilliant.

Some more Pics from the day.
'What a woofter' "Honest, its my melted ice cream all over my hand"
Wilts and Dorset were there! and Nick from the Glossies! Go on Steve, look as if you're having a good time
I wonder what was in Aladins Cave, It certainly made Mike smile Yes Steve, the zoom on your camera caught the only ones to make it to the Pub!

I would like to say a big thank you to all of you for making it a great day. A special thank you to Clive for leading , Dave for dropping the markers ,and Tonker for bringing up the rear. these people make the ride safe, without them we would not have had such a great day.

Hope to see you all next time, stay safe Steve Field.
