The Wetherspoon Wanderers I’d managed to avoid a pile of ironing for whole of the Christmas and New Year period and I’d kinda promised myself that on Sunday I’d get it done…but that was BEFORE I’d looked at the weather forecast and you just can’t iron when you should be out on a bike can you? Asking Dave to send a group email to one and all, I suddenly found myself organising my first impromptu rideout and a couple of texts later, plans had been made. We were to “do lunch” in Street and meet up with Karen who would be shopping there with Jimmy. Arriving at Burrington, I was pleasantly surprised to find the “Palmer Harley” (Merv’s) sitting in the car park and Shirley explained that they were unsure till the last minute if they could join us. We did giggle somewhat at the fact that, as they actually live in Street, all we were going to do today was follow them home. Once Ivor and Sylvia arrived, we were ready to rock n roll, well actually, wern’t !!….Steve Taylor wanted a fag, Shirley needed a wee and that set Ivor thinking that it might be a good idea for him to have one too. You know what it’s like once one person starts…yep I decided that I had to “try” a little one. Up and over the top we went, following the signs to Wells, where Steve Bartlett joined our merry band and once parked up, the priority for Steve Taylor was FOOD! Apparently he hadn’t eaten for a week and the scabby cat crossing the car park was looking easy pickings. His radar picked up the scent of a Wetherspoon’s and we were off, like greyhounds out of their traps….ok like retired greyhounds with zimmer frames out of their traps, but in our minds the picture was soooooo much different, Fed, watered and generally feeling much happier with life we began the waddle back to our bikes and on the way bumped into Karen who had been delayed…..trying on shoes! A good ride home. A good day out and I for one will be looking forward to the next time I get the organisational urge. Ride Safe Linda x
