Help For Heroes Ride Out 2012.

Firstly I would like to thank each and every one of you for your support in this event without the Scrumpies this event would not take place.

Well the start of the day went well for most of us, Cheryl missed the meet up point by a few minutes and was left to find her own way to Dorset, no map, no Sat Nav, nightmare, Steve her other half made it to Tesco’s meeting point no problems, several phone calls later with no answer Steve decided to head off to try and find her,  (no easy task) we did not know which direction she would be coming from. Armed with the postcode of the Legion he set off to find her. The remainder set off for sunny Upton.

Eventually we all got to Upton Legion to meet up with the scooter clubs from the local area, Steve and Cheryl arrived about 20 minutes later, but at least we were all there and together.

Off we go with me in the lead and Joan on her trike bringing up the rear, with Alex breathing in lots of two stroke fumes (glad I was at the front).

Hard marshalling as we do, blocking roundabouts keeping the scooters together, next thing Alex sees a police bike behind him ‘shit’ he thinks he has just see us blocking roundabouts, the next thing the blue lights come on, the police bike moves next to Alex and points to the side of the road, ‘that’s it we are in it now’ the police weren’t interested in our ride they wanted to know when Alex had last MOT’d his bike, as luck would have it, he had done it the day before. Policeman happy now sent Alex on his way, told him to go and catch us up. The only problem was the copper followed him so he had to stick to the speed limits.

A quick leg stretch at five tips one of the ranges at Lulworth and we were off again continuing the ride out down the country lanes of Dorset’s bountiful scenery, nice twisty roads, (What a lovely place to live)

Arriving back in one piece we all tucked into free tea and coffee, the bar maid said she had never seen bikers drinking tea and coffee in a bar before. A couple of burgers and hot dogs later it was time for some of our members to make their way home. So its back to my place, dump the bike, eat some more food and back to the Legion for a proper drink and watch the band, ok for the scooter boys but not the sort of music we would tend to have, as the night went on the drinks were flowing it was now time to go back to my house with the few members that stayed over for the night, people put to the sleeping quarters it was time for me to turn in.

This year was the 4th year we have supported the Scooter clubs with this event, by your commitment to this and your skilful riding we keep the scooters together and ensure they arrive safely back at the Royal British Legion.

So far to date we have raised £7,406.26p. Which, in the present climate, is very good going. All of this money was raised by raffle prizes, donated by all the bike clubs and individuals. The sale of burgers, hot dogs and your kind donations into the buckets.

I would like to thank you all again for supporting this charity that is close to my heart having served in the Army for 22 years and having two daughters serving in the RAF

I am hoping to put this event on again next June, date to be confirmed watch this space.

Kev.
