Fat Lady Run 2012

by Pete Diccox

Got the bike out to leave Chippenham at 7.30, my neighbour was scraping ice off his car, and the fog was down to 100 yards in places (nice biking weather). The half hour ride over to Beckenton to meet Mark & Sandra & Malcolm, the fingers nice and warm (heated grips) the toes gone numb. We set off over to meet the rest of scrumpies at the Mendip inn. On the way there, on high ground sunny but look across to the left where we will be heading, fog in the low parts.
We set off with Archie leading I think 16 bikes, we were doing a pick up at Podimore roundabout but went into the services as a few needed a piss ( cold or old age don’t know which) then on to Ilminster for a fuel stop.
When we were in there, I got talking to a scooter rider,  he was on his way back from a rally in Minehead, he had it on it’s side doing some work on it, what is odd about this you think?  well about a year ago we saw this same guy doing the same thing what a coincidence!
Now the sun was out and much warmer for the next step, Lyme Regis, we all managed to park in the bottom car park so no walk back up that steep hill to the top car park.
Tonker had phoned the skipper (He was in France) as there was 13 of us going fishing six went out in the first boat we caught  22 mackerel the skipper thought we would get about 8,

Do not know what Tonker in the second boat got as we had left by the time they got back.

We had a walk about had fish& chips Then the four of us from Wiltshire went on along the coast road to Weymouth Portland bill parked the bikes up in the M/C bays
(Be warned there was a French bike with a ticket on from some jobs worth for not parking in the M/C bay) walked over for a tea and ice cream.

Mark lead us there. So they asked who was leading home I said I would but we will make progress that means over taking cars
but I will keep it legal(ish). well how many cars 200+ there was a 15 mile jam out of Weymouth, it did not hold us up, we came back in very good time???
This is what Malcolm sent me.

'Thanks for the 'spirited' ride home, it was good to " make progress," and finished off a good day out. Stiff drink and a shower an sleep like a log tonight'.

Cheers guys I must agree with him we all had a great day out so the ones that missed this day out might like it next time don't let the cold ,fog, early start put you off.
