Dorset Run and West Bay Sunday 14th July 2013 The weather forecast looked great so plans started to emerge during the previous week, mainly coordinated by Linda with various emails floating around on the ether. 07.45 Shazza and Dave started proceeds off at Yate with Malcolm and Lynn plus Brian “Hoppy” Hopkins with Brian Stockdale as well all heading for Warminster. 08.00 Linda, Steve and Annette plus Ivor and me headed for Shepton Mallet to pick up a waif and stray called Steve en route also to Warminster. At Warminster we met up with Padre, Pete Diccox and Mary, Neil, Becks, Dave Rutley, Bill Emery and they even claimed Claire from Saltford as one of theirs as well as Blacky out on the trike at last! Gosh, he looked a happy chappy. 09.30 Pete Diccox was the run leader at this point and led eighteen machines out of Warminster. Padre cut loose as he had parishioners to attend to! Through Shaftesbury and on to Spread Eagle Hill. Then we nearly lost three at the turn off but as two were ladies I went after them and corrected them in the error of their ways and brought them safely back in line to meet Blacky still patiently marking the turn. We try hard never to lose a Scrumpy, especially the lady riders! A mile or so down the road the group had stopped and we regrouped and headed for Blandford Forum to meet Kev and Steve from Dorset. A fuel stop with not enough time even for a fag break for me by the time fuel had been added to the bikes and off we went down to the Upton Cafe led by Kev for a fine English breakfast. Becks couldn’t resist showing off the latest colour in underwear and Linda tried to cool him down further but with no luck!
Several went their own ways and Kev continued to lead us on towards West Bay. Good practise of “Third Man Drop” as it was a new experience for some but worked well with Blacky as rear marker. A lovely stop for an ice cream overlooking Chesil Beach and then Kev and I could not resist a bit of a blat round some real superb curvy biker friendly corners but never leaving the group out of our mirrors. Heading in to West bay we slowed to await the rest of the group and we parked in one of the coach bays using the trike as a rear stopper! Several found their way to the nearest pub and paid the price whilst many of us went to the beach for a swim and sun bathe.
A wander round town to refuel our stomachs and back to the bike ready for the 16.00 gathering to say farewell to one and all and head off home in various directions. We elected to keep off the motorway and cruised up to Taunton and back to Weston. A total of about 220 miles covered and a fabulous day out with not a care in the world or a cloud in the sky. Magic

It all started as just an idea “why don’t we do Dorset’s meet this Sunday?, I’ll send an email out and see who’s up for it”………………………….a few emails later and 10 - 4 big buddy, we had ourselves a convoy!! 12 bikes and whoooo hoo Blacky’s trike met at Warminster Services before heading down to Blandford to rendezvous with Dorset and be escorted to their café…….after a brief delay waiting for Magic to rescue the fast becoming familiar “lost bikes” (yep me AGAIN! lol) we found ourselves being fed, watered and rested at Dorsets cafe. A few didn’t stay and went on to do their own thing but the majority were treated firstly, to a not so private viewing of Beck’s new pink underpants and then to a leisurely (Kev led) ride to West Bay. Thanks for the impromptu ice cream stop en-route Kev (we like…we like J ) Once there, some of us went shopping, some of us went to the pub and some of us braved the cccccold sea…but whatever we did, we had a fabulous time.
The usual hugs and kisses saw us mounting our trusty steeds and making our respective ways home. I know I speak for everyone there that the only thing missing was you…hope you can make the next one.
Well we’re hardly Pamela Stevenson & The Hoff, but we’re close…very close Ride safe Linda |
