Mad Axemen Rally, Headley Park

25th to 27th July 2014

Linda contacted me and suggested going early as the weather looked hot and it would be good to get on site fairly early and get set up within the grounds of Headley Park before it filled up too much. What a good idea! So we met at our usual spot in Weston for a 09.30 start. We were both ahead of schedule and we were under way just after 09.15 heading to Warminster Services. Once there we met a group of fellow bikers from “The Dying Breed” on their way to Essex for the weekend. Apparently they had been to Headley Park before so our appetite was whetted. They were a nice bunch of fellow bikers on their way to enjoy themselves as we were.

Linda led the way as Sat Nav was up and working and she took us through some lovely lanes after blatting down the A303. Great way to ride in this heat! Having arrived on site Kev got here within five minutes of us so we made our way down to the camp site. Becks, Neil, Mike and Bandit were already there enjoying some liquid refreshment. We decided to look for shade and set the tents up under the trees and stay cool. Tents all set up and then Steve arrived so he erected beside us. Early evening the sky darkened. We had a thunderstorm approach and it tipped it down! However it soon passed whilst we enjoyed a light snack to prepare us for the evening.  Then Posti arrived rather wet and bedraggled. He sorted his tent out so now it was chill time and drink time!

Pictures were taken with the German plaque as it continues its journey in the company of The Scrumpies around the UK.

The topic of conversation that evening was one to be enjoyed and poor Linda, being the only Scrumpy woman there, came in for some interesting ideas about men and women! Those that were there will understand! The night was warm with music coming out from the other marquee generated by DJ Martin and live band Carbon. A great evening in good company.

Saturday dawned with the four lads leaving to party with Archie and his sixtieth party whilst Kev, Linda and Steve decided The Ace Café had to be done as it was on the bucket list!

Posti and I just chilled, walked around the lake and relaxed. The Ace Café riders came back showing off their goodies and relating their story of heavy traffic and manic car drivers around the North Circular. How many times did you go round the roundabout Linda? The evening started with just the five of us. Music was good with No Way Out being the live band. We just chilled outside and enjoyed it without being deafened! Several raffle prizes were won by us including a bar stand with optics dispenser! A good prize if we can get it home for next weekend! Steve passed the problem to me and Kev supplied the cargo net. Job done.

Sunday and the sun was out so a leisurely and dry pack up and under way by 11.00 with Linda leading again. It was great to be led back home with no map reading to do! A good ride home with a total of 230 miles for me over the weekend in fantastic weather and good company. Thank you so much Linda.
