Wurlitzer Nother Rally
Thatcham
27th to 29th June 2014
First thing was to fuel up locally and head up the M5 Northbound. Once fueled
the rain started! As I had agreed to meet Bunch at Leigh Delamare Services it
was a matter of donning the over suit and being prepared to get rather wet on
the way there. Once at the services Bunch had arrived just before me and we
agreed to get there quickly due to the weather and went M4 to Newbury turn when
it stopped raining and we arrived on site in the dry. A quick erection of tents
and we were all set up. The bike park gradually filled up as more arrived.
Then the rain started again but it didn’t dampen our spirits as the bar was open
and rolls were available! It was good to see so many of The Scrumpies already on
site from the previous day.
Blackjack had set up the VSOC merchandise marquee and he looked so very happy
with the company of Dawn. The site was perfect with two bar areas, one
relatively quiet and the other with the dance floor and stage area. Outside had
tables on a patio area, ideal to sit and chat with both new and old
acquaintances. Andy had his partner Caz in tow who was getting sore fingers
playing with rubber bands in the latest craze of making bracelets and necklaces
in some cases. Dinner on site consisted of fish and chips with veggie options
available as well. The food was reasonable at reasonable prices in my opinion.
The site gradually filled and the evening entertainment was provided by Hot Rod
57, a three piece group with lead guitar and singer, double bass and the
drummer. They were superb and the dance floor soon filled with happy smiling
faces and the night was good despite a little drizzle and overcast. During the
night the heavens opened but that just assisted deep sleep with the sound of the
rain on canvass.
Saturday started with a decent breakfast and yet more rain. Jan was seen busy
being very house proud sweeping out the tent!
I have heard of being house proud!
The rain was so heavy the rideout was cancelled to H’s Biker Café but we went to
the local pub and had a decent meal and chat amongst good friends in the dry.
That evening the entertainment started with the disco followed by Camouflage
with their outrageous performance. Becks gave them all sorts of stick and got
back as good as he gave! At least the music got better as the night went on the
floor filled with Scrumpies dancing the night away.
Sunday dawned and the sun came out! We managed to pack up dry and were on the
road just after 10 with Phil joining us as we drove west bound. Bunch continued
over the bridge and we headed south on the M5. I turned off at Weston and Phil
continued on his way to north Devon. It was nice to have a decent ride at
national speed limits (well maybe just a tad over!) Overall a great weekend and
nowhere near as wet as Tonna!
In total just 185 miles travelled.

And to prove there was much
dancing.
And finally, to get us all to go
back to our tents
