Butlins Xmas 2010 70's Fashion crisis |
|
It’s difficult to believe that 2 years had gone by so quickly. We were at Butlins 2 years ago for our Christmas get away & here we were again – 2 years later. |
|
As usual Father Christmas arrived to pass out the presents. I think he cheated though as we were all told to bring Secret Santa presents with us. Butlins is what you make of it. If you like the music of the 70’s then there are plenty of acts from that time – still alive & still performing!!!

Here’s Alvin – but where are the Chipmunks? If the music is not your thing then as usual there is the social element to look forward too. Most of us arrived some time on Friday and got to our rooms. There are various places to eat which cover most people’s tastes – you can even have a pizza delivered to you room. Before going to listen to the music the socialising started by going from room to room and saying hello to one and all. Many people at Butlins dress up in 70’s style for the whole weekend but Scrumpies only dress up on the Saturday night.
The Scrumpies had some visitors, some on them were Mr and Mrs Bastard, Marie and BoBo. Remember – we only dress up on the Saturday night and the above photo was taken on the Friday night. A member of the ‘public’ came up to Mr Bastard and told him that he thought his fancy dress costume was great. You would think that Mr B’s answer would be unprintable – however – it may be the 1st time that I have seen him speechless. Later on when he had thought about it for a while, well, the language was somewhat different.
Saturday night was dress up night.

Scrumpies and Friends mixing & laughing. Father Christmas had an identity crisis.
By the look on his face I think Father Christmas has had one glass of sherry too many.

Huggy Bear arrived with Mr and Mrs Laurence ‘Biker’ of Arabia

Meet the Treasurer and Scrumpy of the Year – the Twins.
Time can be a terrible mistress – John Travolta has lost all his hair it’s a shame as it was ‘Saturday Night’

These two shaved their chests especially for the occasion

and donated them to BoBo who is obviously folically challenged
Demis Roussos was there with some of his groupies.
Lastly I give you our Centre Rep who arrived in a very special costume.
He came as Tigger to a 70’s evening which seemed strange but there you are. However, we all know that Blacky always works with an agenda in mind and I was determined to find out why Tigger? Well, I started some detailed research into it and final found. Blacky wore the Tigger costume as he was commemorating the release of the Disney film Winnie the Pooh and Tigger Too in December 1974. You have to give it to Blacky, the depths he will go to get authenticity to what he is doing.
Finally, I think it’s true to say that we all thank Kev for taking on board the organizing of yet another great time had by all at Butlins 2010. It takes time and effort to organize these events so many thanks Kev – we appreciate it. Back to Butlins in 2012. Take care. Words by AJ Pictures by Maria Rose and others
