Bristol on Broadway

So far this summer has been the wettest, coldest and dreariest that I can remember in a long time. We were supposed to have been riding to the wall that weekend but…..

Sunday came and it may have been raining in the east midlands but there was a dry corridor from Bristol to Broadway with a bit of sun thrown in and it had to be taken advantage of. Ratbike Rob and I set off for the Bristol meet at the Cross Hands. I’ve never been there before and it’s a very welcome change from that dreadful place they used to meet in years ago. They now congregate in the pleasant surroundings of a Hotel dining room with table service and complimentary coffee.

Grasshopper and Calley were on holiday but there was good turnout and I had a rideout up my sleeve. Mark Britton became “The New Boy”, he’s been to one of their meetings before but not quite got around to joining yet so I helped him out with that and took the money out of his wallet before we set off to Worcestershire.

I’d not ridden the Vale of Evesham before so Phil took the lead when we got to Cheltenham, as he knew where the bridal track that would eventually get us to Broadway was hidden. Once in Broadway Phil suggested a Pub a mile outside as being a good one to stop at….this turned out to be his local!

After lunch we rode some more bridal tracks and stopped at a dogging spot recommended to me by TC. Its actually a stunning view point across Cheltenham where you can see both the Welsh mountains and Birmingham which is nearly 50 miles away.

Because the rideout didn’t start until midday it did go on a little later than I normally do them and Rob and I didn’t get home until about 7pm but after sooooo many washouts this year we didn’t care.
