Belgium Waffles and all that Beer stuff
Having to book our holidays some 9 months in advance we decided to visit the Belgium Yamaha Custom Rally and after visit the Ardennes and Verdun. We set off in the dry but windy weather from the UK in fact it was a hurricane which lasted most of the way to Belgium. First stopover was Dunkirk before an early start to arrive at the rally site mid day, The die hards Brits were already there so we managed to find a ‘nice’ spot next to the moat. This was a bad move as the frogs in the moat, as soon as it got dark decided to sing to one another – not so good in a tent.

The rally was held in the grounds of a Chateau and old abbey, with the abbey building being used for the bar, band and food. | |||

The first night a heavy rock band played pretty good - Then it rained. Saturday was pretty wet and cold, so cold that they lit the open fire in one of the halls. The ride out was cancelled and turned into a car out to the local brewery.

The Saturday night was a disco with presentations to the UK Centres who had turned up – Thanks for the vino. After the rally we rode down to Verdun to visit the WW1 fortresses and museums. The weather got a bit better. The forts were quite impressive, what was left of them.

On the way back we stopped over in Bastogne for a few days, the area is full of WW2 ‘Battle of the Bulge’ memorials - and again it rained and it rained. |

On the way home it rained again until, believe it or not, we reached the shores of England then the sun came out! - That’ll teach us. Mark & Sandra |
