Abbotsbury airfield rideout 2009
After the monthly meeting it was off for a rideout and what a lovely day for it. This month it was Dorset's turn and thanks to Kev we went to Abbotsbury airfield near Shaftsbury.

Blacky only just made it to the W&H before he needed another change of spark plugs but once they were in we got going. In all about 20 of us set off.

Unfortunately we only got as far as Wincanton before they needed replacing again. So he decided to call it a day.

On we went through the rolling hills of Dorset until we reached our destination on the high road from Shaftsbury to Blandford. I've ridden that road many times but had no idea that the airfield was there. It's a magnet for bikers having a rideout and good facilities. You can sit outside and watch a constant stream of light aircraft taking off and landing.

Steve is learning to fly and filled us in on what it's like.
Lessons are £165 an hour and you need to do 45 hours and pass six exams. He's now done 35 of the hours, but I didn't ask how many exams he'd passed. When you've got your licence you can hire the club planes if

You don't want to buy your own and they cost from £85 per hour upwards.

We also have another Scrumpie with a pilots licence, maybe one day we'll hire a plane and all go flying.

Many thanks to Kev, that's a great stop off point for a rideout and I'll be going back again.

As ever the sun was shining

Sorry if you couldn't be with us.
