Bath Festival of Motoring 2015

20th and 21st June 2015

Linda and I met at our usual spot in Weston and decided to use the motorways and get there as quickly as possible. As we got close to the Bath turn there was a yellow jacket I recognized and we joined Bunch as we headed for the site. Bob and Judy as well as Archie and Sue had set up camp the previous evening and we arrived just as the dome was being set up under the guidance of Blacky and Blackjack Bob. The bikes were parked up and we looked like a great club.

Neil and Becks, Kev and Steve, and Ivor all turn up quickly after us. Merv, Mark and Sandra, Clive and Sue as well as Dave Rutley turned up later. Although a little overcast the sun soon came out. We had a total of fifteen bikes gleaming in the sun. We chilled and chatted bikes and sorted out the world’s problems.

During the morning we were asked to do a parade within the main arena. As we queued to enter the arena close to me was a lady friend of Georgie called Isabel so she was invited to come pillion with me. We proved to be quite an attraction with a great commentary by Bob as we displayed our bikes to the public. We did our “Sound of Thunder” and received a round of applause from the crowd. I had to take the lady for a quick ride round the field didn’t I?

In the afternoon the classic cars were going in to the arena and I got a lift in one of the cars which Mike and Isabel owned. It was great to be driving round in a 4.8 litre American muscle car! I think it was a Pontiac GTO Convertible. Later we did another run in to the arena on the bikes. This time I took Jay as pillion and Mike and Josh were taken in by Dave and Sue respectively as we ended the show. Many thanks to you both. The organizers even brought an enormous platter of food to finish off consisting of chicken pieces, scotch eggs, pork pies and various other bits and pieces. Linda and I decided it was more comfortable at home in our own beds so off we went back to Weston the country way.

We had agreed to meet at Sainsbury’s and go to the site the same way. However I got a call to say she couldn’t find her garage keys! I waited until our agreed time but no sign of her! So I had a lovely blat across country and arrived on site around 09.15. Archie and Sue, Neil and Becks plus Bob and Judy had stayed on site overnight but the beer tent had closed early. However this did not stop the beer from flowing! Ivor and Sylvia, Pat and Sue, Hoppy, Gary and Beans, plus Nick, Alan Prescott and Keith, an old member still wearing a Scrumpy patch all came on site. Linda arrived late to tell us the story of the keys. Ask her what happened and rattle your keys in front of her! The stand looked great with so many gleaming bikes on show. We did our “Sound of Thunder” to conclude the morning show. This time I had Georgie as pillion so still an unbroken record of a lady on the pillion once in the arena! The afternoon wore on and the clouds started to break and the sun came out.

The organization was yet again very friendly and they really appreciated us being there. This was their fourth event and I believe this is now considered as an annual event for us to attend. It was a great weekend mostly in sunshine with good company and a lovely chill out time enjoyed by all who attended. Many thanks go to Ivor for finding and organizing it and to all who supported and attended it.

Some non Scrumpy pics from the show.
