Dorset Rideout

Sunday 13th April 2014

It all started with Linda and me meeting at Morrison’s for 08.00 and without a Sat Nav which could not be found! So navigation by Sun Nav needed for today! Linda was unsure of the way to Shepton but was off the mark via Churchill and Burrington. We encountered cyclists raising money for Help for Heroes on the way including a double decker bus! Arriving opposite the Showground early we found Nigel, Mervin and Mark raring to go. One bike needed a little encouragement to start but off we went.

I had suggested going via Shaftesbury and Spread Eagle to Blandford but was directed up the hill to pick up the A37 and once under way, realized we were not on the right road! There was no turning back and admitting a fault so we continued ever onwards. Oh well, let’s have a Magical Mystery Tour! Trying to keep the sun on my face we went through some lovely villages and came through Henstridge to finally arrive at Blandford some thirty minutes late! We weren’t lost, just misplaced, honest! Fortunately Steve was waiting for us and we briefly admired his new bike before we headed off to meet Kev.

The rest of the rideout is well reported by Steve where we had a good breakfast and continued on to Sammy Millar’s Museum

then on to next years Rally site.

Once we left the rally site we were led by Mark up the A338 to Ringwood, Salisbury, Warminster and on to Frome to refuel and say our fond farewells. Maybe they had lost faith in my navigation skills?

Linda and I took a different way back for a change via West Harptree and past Chew Valley lakes to arrive back at Weston with some 215 miles covered.

Yet another great day out with a little adventure on the way down roads we would not usually use.
