Weston-super-Mare Bike Night

4th June 2015

Weston have a regular Bike Night on a Thursday evening during the summer months so when Bunch emailed me to say he was likely to go this week as the forecast was for a dry evening I just had to join him. Linda also responded that she and Theo were coming too. So a meeting was arranged at my place for about 17.30. Bunch arrived first from Chepstow. Then Linda arrived with Theo and Henry in tow. And so then we were five!

This had to be my shortest rideout ever consisting of just two miles to the sea front! Dinner was served outside at Winston’s in the warm evening sun with a selection of a prawn salad for me, pies and chips for several and a baguette for another. Then we wandered down to view the bikes and make our contribution to The Royal British Legion. There were some monster rear wheels around to compete with Steve as the theme was European Power Night. We saw quite a few Viragos and Stars so Scrumpy cards were placed on each bike we saw. This is a great way to increase membership. One guy I spoke with had just rebuilt a Virago from a basket case and brought it up to Weston to get it MOT'd and join Bike Night. He will be joining the club.

We also bumped in to Bill who is a regular down there come rain or shine. Linda found someone to repair her leather jeans and sew on patches as well as looking at a possible new bike in the form of a Suzuki Intruder which was for sale in Bristol. Martin joined us for a while and Ivor and Sylvia found us to. Another oldie seen down there was Del who is still a regular rally attender. He used to produce a local news magazine for The Scrumpies some years ago.

We wandered back to the bike park and I led the way back. Linda only had another mile to go as Bunch continued back to Chepstow, some thirty miles homeward bound. In total I covered just four miles which has to be my shortest rideout ever! Still it was a good evening out in warm weather, good company and great to see some older past members of The Scrumpies. If anyone wants to come on down from Bristol, Wiltshire or The Glossies please just contact me and we can ride in together.
