Somerset Rideout. 19.08.2012

Well it was Somerset’s meeting on Sunday and it was decided another spontaneous rideout was a must, we couldn’t let the sunshine go to waste.

We were not sure where we were going but just the general direction of Clevedon and Portishead, but in true Tonker style (he was leading) the ‘long way round’.

We turned right out of the garden centre and headed towards Shipham once there we turned left (something felt familiar, going round in circles again), this road took us into Sandford where we then turned right towards Churchill but then turned left and went passed Churchill school and leisure centre and took the lanes around the back of the school ending up in Congresbury where we crossed the Weston Super Mare to Backwell road to head towards Clevedon.

Once in Clevedon we passed a play park which I recognised, it wasn’t far from Dave & Kate’s, I thought to myself, we could have called in to see Kate for a coffee, anyway we continued along the coast line up hill and down dale taking in the views until we got to Portishead, where we ended up at the waters edge by a play park with boating lakes and cafe.

So we stopped here for a coffee break, where everybody went all goggle eyed over two 10 week old German Shepherds puppies, (they were balls of fluff still).

After coffee we then headed back towards town and headed towards Backwell,  then through part of Flax Bourton travelling through tranquil woods up to the top of the hill and crossed over a main road when the road got narrow, then I recognised where we were to, we were at the back of Bristol airport,  we travelled past the end of the runway where you can stop and watch the airplanes come to land. This is where I’m afraid to say Tonker went back on his word, there was gravel, then grass in the middle of the road, tut tut Tonker.

I’d recommend visiting the back of the airport again and take in the views out towards Weston Super Mare and Clevedon.

Anyway, from the airport this road took us through part of Goblin Coombe heading towards Langford where we stopped at the village pub for a farewell drink and said our goodbyes.

So Thank you Tonker for the mystery tour.

Sorry no pictures were taken.
