The ride of my life

Today was one of those days that will stay with me for the rest of my life, sure I’ve been on hundreds of rideouts (as a pillion) and seen the spectacle that the Scrumpies produce from staggered riding in a group, but I don’t think I will ever forget the emotion that welled up inside me when I saw it for the first time …… in my own rear view mirror. The day started, as it always does, with a hearty breakfast and a good catch up. Becks, Neil n AJ had ridden down and Kev had ridden up, it was soooo great to have my friends close. Stands went up at 11.00, or maybe 11.30 who know’s….we were on Clive’s time, (even though he wasn’t there). Up the front, sandwiched between Tonker and Steve Field (how lucky can a girl get) I was feeling just a tad nervous but on top of the world. I knew I was in safe hands and I just had to relax and enjoy! I know we left Banwell…I think we rode through Winscombe, onto Cheddar…Wells and “out that way” but in truth the route we took is a bit of a blur, I was concentrating so much. I kept clocking the sight of all these headlights behind me and couldn’t quite get why the sound sounded so different? Then I realised it was because I was adding to it J. Tonker kept a steady pace (sorry guys but it wont be for long) and by the time we came to stop for a break in Shepton I had already learnt much about riding in a group and the handling of my bike. Taking my helmet off I hoped everyone could read “Whooooooooo Hooooo !!” on my face.

Those with longer journeys peeled off and the rest of us carried on to Bradford on Avon to put on a pound or two with lovely home made cakes. The ride home took my milometer to almost a hundred miles and I can honestly say I loved every single one of them.

Before I sign off….to go and polish my bike J I’d like to send my heartfelt thanks to the owners of all the back seats I’ve parked my arse on over the years, without you I’d have never done the things I’ve done, seen the things I’ve seen or (in the case of the latest rally photos) needed the counselling I’ve just booked lol and to all the “other halves” of the riders that I’ve ridden with, thank you so much for letting me sit there

…role on the next rideout

Linda.
