Banwell memorial bench project 2019

Normally over the winter months you work on your bike. This year some of the Scrumpies planned the Banwell project! Most of you know the Memorial site created in 2008 at Court Farm in Banwell (home of the Scrumpies party). It consists of two Benches and an oak tree overlooking a lake on the farm.

Many past VSOC members, not just Scrumpies have their names on the benches as you can see from the photos. Requests for names to be put on these benches must be made to the Scrumpies centre rep.

At the AGM in October 2018 with support from Scrumpies committee and members, all were asked to help upgrade the memorial site. Cost savings were sought through sponsorship, and a budget was agreed. At this point, thanks must go to Steve Carter (aka Bandit) for getting most of the materials for the project. All were supplied by the following companies in the Exeter/Devon area.

1.JEWSONSAstroTurf and plate compactor.
2.BLAMPHAYNE SAW MILLAll the timber and post mix.
3.BUILDBASENails fixing.
4.BROOKS BASICSIronmongery hinges & a latch.

07.45hrs Saturday 23rd March, guess who's on site first? ...Bandit with a fully loaded truck and trailer. Members were asked to be on site when they can from 09.30hrs onwards. By 10am work was underway clearing the site, making holes, posts in and more for the rest of the morning. Of course, coffee and tea was going well.

The site came together slowly but surely. We only had one day, so it was much like "DIY SOS" on TV. At 6pm all was done thanks to a crew of 12 that fought out the day. Well done to you all!
